FocusRay Extension is Now Compatible with Glasses, Beyond Just Vision-Correction Lenses

AoharuNEXT Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Rion Moriyama) announced the "FocusRay Extension" (pronounced: FocusRay Extension) on April 12, 2026—an eye-tracking device for VR SNS that can be used alongside various prescription lenses.
Today, we are pleased to announce that it will support glasses, a world-first* for an external eye-tracking device. (*Based on in-house research at the time of announcement, among standalone, aftermarket eye-tracking devices for VR headsets.)
Following our initial announcement, we received numerous inquiries from customers regarding compatibility with glasses.
Initially, our development team concluded that "glasses compatibility would be difficult," leading us to request that customers switch to VR prescription lenses. However, as development progressed, we discovered a way to enable compatibility with glasses, and we are now making it an official feature.

1.About FocusRay Extension's Glasses Compatibility
Unlike conventional products, the FocusRay Extension utilizes a unique magnetic attachment method to support VR prescription lenses. (The camera-equipped arms extend and contract horizontally to fit multiple devices.)
By inserting these arms inside your personal glasses, hooking the main component onto the nose bridge, and utilizing the magnetic attachment, you can enjoy a seamless eye-tracking experience even while wearing glasses.
To ensure a secure fit when using glasses, we have added a new securing component. *Patents pending (Patent Application Nos.: JP 2026-061377 / JP 2026-132546)
Please note the following restrictions for compatible glasses:
Lens thickness: 5mm or less (If thicker, it may not mount properly).
Frame height: 5cm or less.
Frame width: 14.5cm or less.
Temple (arm) thickness: 3mm or less in diameter (If the shape is flat and parallel to the wearer's face, 4mm or less horizontally).
Nose pads: Must be independent, or if integrated, must protrude 6mm or more toward the wearer (Glasses without nose pads cannot be used).
Shape: Must not be a special shape (e.g., star-shaped, heart-shaped, square, etc.).
Size: Must fit within the VR head-mounted display (HMD).
Any glasses that meet the above criteria can be used with the device. If your glasses do not fit these specifications, you may experience more pressure than intended when wearing them, or the device may fail to capture tracking properly.
Customers who have already purchased the FocusRay Extension can use their glasses without making any changes to their existing orders.

2.About FocusRay Extension
The FocusRay Extension is an eye-tracking device designed for VR SNS, consisting of a compact camera module and a core module.
By adopting a novel magnetic attachment method*, it works flawlessly whether you use prescription VR lenses attached to the headset or wear your own glasses (it does not use a lens-fixed mounting style).
In addition to being used alongside various FocusRay models (AONXV-001-W / AONXV-001WR), the FocusRay Extension can be used as a standalone device or combined with third-party face-tracking devices.
Please Note: The proximity sensor on your VR headset (which detects when the headset is taken off and automatically switches it to sleep mode) will no longer function when this device is installed. Please keep this in mind before purchasing.
*Patents pending (Patent Application Nos.: JP 2026-061377 / JP 2026-132546)
The core module, which houses the information processing board and battery, features one power-delivery USB Type-C port.
For example, connecting a FocusRay here allows you to utilize the FocusRay Extension's large-capacity battery (2000mAh) to extend continuous operating time. Additionally, it features two USB Type-C ports capable of both data communication and power delivery—one for input from the HMD or other devices, and the other for output to audio devices, etc.
This allows the FocusRay Extension's single core module to handle multiple connections without the need for a USB splitter.
The FocusRay Extension will support the following headsets. We will gradually announce additional compatible devices as physical verification is completed.
If you own multiple headsets, you can purchase separate dedicated mounting bases to use a single FocusRay Extension unit across multiple devices.

By utilizing "Baballonia," developed by the open-source face and eye-tracking project "Project Babble," the device supports smooth face tracking.
